this is the finished render of the ice cave, with textures and lighting all applied in cinema 4d, i applied the real camera moves and took away the background of the live footage so that it would not appear through the caves transparent textures.

this is the set up of the cave and what it looked like in the perspective view, the background was not visible through the mat texture, but once i added the ice textures, it became apparent so i removed it and replaced it with a white background. to create the lighting i used one omni light and one sunlight, the sun gave it the natural ambience and very natural midtone lighting.

i tracked the footage in the pixel farms PF HOE, this enabled me to use camera moves in cinema 4d that were very natural, as though being held by a handheld camera (which it was)
i exported it out with the cinema 4d setting, deleted all of the tracking points and got rid of the background. all that was used from the track was the camera work.

here is the intial lighting that i used, it was very blue, i tried to create natural lighting without the use of the sunlight in cinema 4D, this proved very difficult and could not get it natural enough, so in the end i ended up using the sun light.
